PRODUCTION NOTES

Beginning, of course, with original acrylic paintings by Andrew Lakey, the Silhouettes & Shadows production is directed and produced by Doug Brown. The primary media vehicle of Silhouettes & Shadows is 2D-animation using Adobe’s After Effects virtual camera technology. Innovative After Effects® animation were created at Motion City Films in Santa Monica by animator Jerry Witt under the direction of Doug Brown.

After Effects is traditionally used for 2D animation graphics but for Silhouettes & Shadows, Brown and Witt experimented by scanning 4X5 color transparencies of the featured paintings which were then used in tracking shots using the After Effects virtual camera – traveling over the Lakey’s paintings as if they were the surface of the moon.
